SENIOR PASTOR

General Description

The Senior Pastor will serve as the spiritual leader for the church congregation and staff.  He/She will lead and minister to the entire church staff, lay leaders and congregation.  As the primary preacher, the Senior Pastor is expected to develop, promote, and strengthen the church body and community through biblical teachings, evangelism, and discipleship.  The Senior Pastor must have a vibrant, intimate and personal relationship with Jesus.  He/She should have a passion for the lost, and a desire to foster continuous spiritual growth in all who have accepted the Lord.

The Senior Pastor should have a work ethic consistent with striving for excellence in all assigned responsibilities but also understand the need to achieve balance in professional responsibilities and personal relationships.  Good management and delegation skills are a must in achieving this balance.

Experience

 

The Senior Pastor must have a minimum of five years full-time experience in Pastoral Ministries within a multi-staff organization, preferably in a growing and diverse congregation.  Experience in leading a ministerial staff and office staff with various levels of responsibility is preferred.  Pastoral work in a Protestant Christian church required.

Education

 

An undergraduate level degree in the discipline of Biblical Studies, Pastoral Ministries, Theology or other relevant area of studies required.  A Graduate level degree is desired.

Essential Functions

 

Support the Mission of Columbia Community Church

  • Dynamically preach spiritually challenging sermons based upon the Word of God, for the purpose of developing and fostering personal relationships with Jesus Christ.
  • Provide guidance and wisdom in the instruction and interpretation of the Word of God.
  • Formulate and implement strategies for church growth in the areas of congregation attendance and spiritual development.
  • Maintain emphasis on discipleship and evangelism.
  • Uphold fiscal responsibility in the management of church funds and facilities
  • Perform administrative duties as determined by the Board of Directors.
  • Work with the church leadership to develop and implement a long term vision for the church.
  • Uphold affiliation with relevant entities among the Church of God, Anderson, IN and its Pacific Northwest Association.

Lead a Diverse Staff of Professionals and Volunteers

  • Supervision of existing staff within the boundaries set forth by the Board of Directors.
  • Provide wise mentorship to existing pastoral staff and church leaders.
  • Support existing church ministry areas such as children and youth.  Develop strategies for new ministry areas to meet the needs of the congregation and community.
  • Maintain regular office hours for the availability of the congregation, staff, and community.
  • Work with church leadership and management to ensure all lay pastors, ministry directors, and office personnel are staffed by qualified individuals while minimizing vacancy periods.
  • Ensure the availability of pastoral care and response for the congregation

Ensure Columbia Community Church Positively Impacts the Surrounding Community

  • Foster the church’s vision of reaching the community with the aim of making a positive impact and producing more followers of Jesus Christ.
  • Become active within the community and support existing community projects, in a manner that will positively represent Columbia Community Church, and Jesus Christ.
  • Seek and implement avenues of Christian continuity among other churches and organizations with the community.

 

Personal Growth

  • Keep a personal commitment to prayer, accountability and holy living.
  • Develop and adhere to a plan that supports continuous personal, spiritual and professional growth.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

 

  • In depth knowledge of the Bible and how to apply it in a relevant manner.
  • Dynamic personality with experience in managing multiple tasks desired.
  • Prioritization of pastoral duties and day to day activities.
  • Must be able to work within the Community on outreach projects.
  • Effective listening and communication skills.
  • Organized, dependable, productive, presentable, and professional.
  • Personal experience with family life matters desired.
  • Computer proficiency desired with experience using Microsoft applications.
